For the first time in Spain, a specialized training program on the use and maintenance of individual and crew-served small arms was conducted under the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine), with personnel from the Armed Forces of Ukraine taking part.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

The cooperation is being carried out within the framework of the EUMAM Ukraine, and 21 Ukrainian service members participated in the training.

The primary objective of the course was to improve their skills in operating and maintaining both individual and crew-served small arms systems.

According to the General Staff, the training program was structured in stages to ensure the gradual acquisition of knowledge and practical skills.

Participants first completed theoretical and practical instruction on various weapons systems. This phase covered both individual small arms and crew-served weapons operated by military teams.

The next stage focused on maintenance. Ukrainian personnel received training in both first-level maintenance, performed directly by users, and second-level maintenance, intended for specialists responsible for repairing and servicing such systems.

The course concluded with live-fire exercises, during which participants practiced the skills they had acquired both on foot and in integration with various combat platforms.

In addition to technical training, particular emphasis was placed on the safe and responsible handling of weapons under all operational conditions.

Considerable attention was also devoted to improving coordination among service members when employing crew-served weapons.

“Thanks to this practical and safe training, Ukrainian service members are enhancing their technical proficiency and operational autonomy, directly adapting the acquired knowledge to the current needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in wartime conditions,” the General Staff emphasized.

Spain continues to participate in the EUMAM Ukraine.

Training for Ukrainian personnel is coordinated by a Training Coordination Center operating under the command of the Spanish Armed Forces’ Operational Command.

Activities are coordinated with various international organizations both within the EU framework and through multinational cooperation.

Spain has significantly expanded the range of training courses available to Ukrainian service members since the launch of the European mission. These courses are currently conducted at facilities and units of Spain’s Ministry of Defence, the Army, the Navy, and the Civil Guard across different regions of the country.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Spain and the European Union for their continued support and assistance.

As reported, at the summit in Brussels, all 27 EU member-state leaders agreed to continue increasing pressure on Russia and supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian military aggression.
