Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has begun his official visit to the Czech Republic with a stop in the historic city of Telč, where he was welcomed by Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil.

Telč holds special significance for Vystrčil, as it was the city where he launched his political career, serving as mayor before entering national politics, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

Together with Telč Mayor Vladimír Brtník, the two officials discussed local development, modernization projects, and reforms in public administration, sharing experiences on improving local governance and strengthening municipal institutions.

During the first day of his visit, Grosu also traveled to the city of Tábor, where he was received by Mayor Štěpán Pavlík. While there, he visited the studio of Moldovan artist Teodor Buzu, an internationally recognized painter and recipient of numerous distinctions, including the honorary title of “Master of Art” awarded by the President of the Republic of Moldova.

Buzu is a member of the Association of Visual Artists of South Bohemia as well as the Union of Artists of the Republic of Moldova.

Later in the day, Grosu attended the presentation of the documentary series “Landmarks of Moldova,” produced by Czech director Petr Voldán. On the occasion, the Moldovan Parliament Speaker presented the filmmaker with a diploma of appreciation on behalf of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The documentary consists of 13 episodes and is also broadcast by Czech public television.

Grosu also met with Irena Ferčíková Konečná, Chair of the Czech-Moldovan Interparliamentary Friendship Group. During their discussions, he highlighted Moldova’s progress in its European integration efforts, noting that the country is already engaged in negotiations on the first cluster of chapters related to European Union accession.

The Moldovan official expressed gratitude for the Czech Republic’s continued support and voiced hope for further backing as Moldova seeks to open additional negotiating clusters on its path toward EU membership.

The second day of the visit is expected to include a series of meetings with senior Czech officials focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing Moldova’s European aspirations.
