Greece, US exchange views on evolving migration policies

Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Plevris welcomed U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle at the ministry, where they held extensive discussions on migration policy and issues of mutual interest. Deputy Minister Sevi Voloudaki also participated in the meeting.

During the talks, Plevris briefed the ambassador on the latest developments in migration management and outlined the Greek government's key priorities, CE Report informs via the Ministry of Migration and Asylum of Greece's official website.

Particular emphasis was placed on the new, stricter legislative framework aimed at combating illegal migration and on the recorded reduction in migration flows to Greece.

The minister also highlighted the major challenges facing Europe in implementing the new Pact on Migration and Asylum, stressing the need for effective protection of external borders, action against migrant smuggling networks, stronger return policies, and a coherent framework for managing migration pressures across the European Union.

The two sides exchanged views on international developments and the evolving approaches adopted by many countries toward illegal migration, as well as the contemporary challenges associated with migration and refugee flows.

They also reaffirmed the excellent level of cooperation between Greece and the United States in the fields of migration and asylum, with particular emphasis on continued collaboration between the relevant authorities and the exchange of expertise and best practices.
