UN praises FBiH government’s progress on poverty reduction

Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, met at the Federation Government headquarters in Sarajevo with Arnhild Spence, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the meeting, Resident Coordinator Spence highlighted that the United Nations, through its 19 organizations, has maintained strong cooperation with authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years, CE Report informs via the FBiH Government's official Facebook account.

She emphasized that the UN's mission is development-oriented, aimed at assisting all citizens of the country, and that it works with local authorities to achieve sustainable development goals.

On this occasion, Spence praised the activities of the Federation Government during its current mandate, particularly noting achievements related to poverty reduction and inclusiveness. She stated that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has made significant progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Prime Minister Nikšić thanked Spence for her interest and pointed out that his government has successfully placed issues concerning the living standards of all citizens at the center of public attention. He highlighted progress in increasing the minimum wage, protecting workers' rights and pensioners' rights, and noted that this is the first Federation government to ease the burden on employers by reducing the overall contribution rate. He added that infrastructure projects have not been neglected in the process.

In response to Spence's question about areas where UN support is needed, the discussions highlighted projects related to energy transition and environmental protection.

The meeting also covered the current socio-economic and political situation. Both sides emphasized that the UN's engagement has been of great importance to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed a shared interest in continuing cooperation in the future.
