Sweden has announced the allocation of $108 million to support the PURL initiative for the supply of U.S. weapons to Ukraine.

This is stated in a press release from the Swedish Ministry of Defense, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

It is noted that these funds are part of a previously announced aid package for Ukraine.

“Through the PURL initiative, Ukraine gains access to high-priority American defence materiel, including advanced air defence systems and ammunition. This is crucial to Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russia’s continued attacks. Sweden’s support is long-term, substantial and based on Ukraine’s needs and priorities,” said Defense Minister Paul Jönsson.

According to reports, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has provided Ukraine with military aid totaling 128 billion Swedish kronor. Part of this aid was directed toward supporting funds and initiatives from other countries.

This is the fourth time Sweden has allocated funds through the PURL. Including this new contribution, Sweden’s total support through the PURL amounts to USD 543 million.

As reported, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative is a mechanism focused on supplying Ukraine with weapons from a list of priority needs. It enables NATO member countries to finance the supply of U.S. weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions.

Germany will finance additional deliveries of U.S. weapons to Ukraine worth USD 200 million through the PURL mechanism and will also allocate USD 200 million for the purchase of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems.
