North Macedonia's top-ranked tennis player, Lina Gjorcheska, will play the first Grand Slam main-draw match of her career today at Wimbledon, where she will face last year's finalist, American Amanda Anisimova, the tournament's sixth seed.

Gjorcheska earned her place in the main draw by successfully coming through the qualifying tournament with three victories, CE Report quotes MIA.

In the first qualifying round, she defeated Spain's Angela Fita Boluda in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. She then overcame Portugal's Francisca Jorge 2-1 in sets (5-7, 6-2, 6-1), recovering after losing the opening set to complete the comeback.

In the final qualifying round, Gjorcheska produced another dominant performance, defeating Italy's Laura Bronzetti 6-1, 6-2 to secure her place in the Wimbledon main draw.

As part of her Wimbledon preparations, Anisimova played only two official matches at the Queen's Club Championships, where she was eliminated in the quarter-finals before returning to the United States after just five days. Ahead of the match, she described the brief trip home as a positive decision, particularly after dealing with an ankle injury during the European clay-court season.

The match between Gjorcheska and Anisimova is scheduled as the first match on Court No. 2, with play set to begin at 12:00 p.m. local time in North Macedonia.
