North Macedonia’s champion targets EHF Champions League wild card return
The European Handball Federation (EHF) has announced a list of ten confirmed teams for the new season of the Champions League, with a total of 24 teams set to compete in the group stage.
The ten guaranteed participants based on federation rankings are: Magdeburg, Barcelona, PSG, Aalborg, Kielce, Veszprém, Dinamo Bucharest, Sporting Lisbon, Zagreb and Kolstad, along with the EHF European League champion Melsungen, CE Report quotes MIA.
North Macedonia’s champion Vardar does not have a direct place in Europe’s top club competition but has applied for a wild card and is widely expected to receive it, according to reports. The “red-and-blacks” have five competitors: Celje (Slovenia), Valur (Iceland), Kristianstad (Sweden), Kriens (Switzerland) and Partizan (Serbia). Four of these six teams will receive an invitation to participate in the Champions League.
The participants in the Champions League will be confirmed on June 22, while the group draw will take place on June 26.
The 24 participating teams will be divided into six groups of four teams each.
