Haaland fires Norway to winning World Cup start
Norwegian striker Erling Haaland made an excellent start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leading Norway to a convincing 4-1 victory over Iraq in their opening group-stage match.
The star forward scored twice in the first half, immediately demonstrating his quality. His first goal came in the 29th minute, while the second followed only a few minutes later after he capitalized on a defensive mistake, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Iraq managed to level the score temporarily through a goal by Aymen Hussein, but Norway's response was swift and decisive.
In the second half, Leo Østigård added a third goal, while a late own goal sealed a 4-1 victory for Norway.
The match marked Norway's return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence, while for Iraq it was their first appearance in the tournament in several decades.
