The new season of the UEFA Champions League will begin today.

The headline clash of the evening will see Real Madrid take on Inter, CE Report quotes STA.

The Champions League will be played under the new format for the third consecutive year. Each of the 36 teams will play eight matches through the end of January.

The top eight clubs will advance directly to the round of 16, while teams finishing from ninth to 24th will compete in a knockout playoff for a place in the last 16.

The final will be held on June 5, 2027, at Atletico Madrid's stadium.

Today's fixtures are: AEK Athens vs LASK Linz, Club Brugge vs Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal, Porto vs Manchester City, Lille vs Betis, and Real Madrid vs Inter.

The remaining matches of the opening round will be played on Wednesday and Thursday.
