Moldovan freestyle wrestler Alexandr Gaidarli claimed a bronze medal at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, United States, after defeating Ukraine's Emrakh Hashymov 10-0 in the men's 70 kg bronze-medal match.

According to Moldova's Ministry of Education and Research, Gaidarli, who comes from the village of Copceac in the Gagauzia autonomous region, delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, winning each of his victorious bouts by the same dominant 10-0 score, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The Moldovan athlete defeated opponents from Georgia, Uzbekistan and the United States on his way to the semifinals.

However, his hopes of reaching the final were ended by Russian wrestler Magomed Emi Eltemirov, who went on to win the world championship title.

Gaidarli recovered from the semifinal defeat to secure third place, earning his second consecutive bronze medal at the U23 World Wrestling Championships.

His first bronze came in 2025 at the championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Two other Moldovan freestyle wrestlers also produced strong performances in Las Vegas. Ion Marcu finished fifth in the men's 74 kg category, while Eugeniu Mihalcean placed fifth in the 86 kg division.

Gaidarli's achievement added another international medal to Moldova's wrestling record, underlining the country's presence in youth freestyle wrestling.
