A major European breakdancing tournament will take place in Sofia on September 26 and 27, the organizers said on Tuesday.

Elite breakdancers from France, Germany, Romania, Italy, and other countries have confirmed their participation at the tournament, for which a stage will be specially built in front of the National Palace of Culture, CE Report quotes BTA.

The event marks the final stage in the EU-funded Break the Limits project, bringing together the Bulgarian Breaking Federation, the French Dance Federation and The Saxons (Germany), following successful events in Montpellier and Dresden. Supported by Erasmus+ and Sofia – European Capital of Sport, the festival aims to promote breakdancing as an accessible sport and a modern tool for social inclusion, while strengthening international cultural ties and Bulgaria's profile as a host of major European events.

The festival will feature national team battles between Bulgaria, France and Germany, youth competitions, individual breaking and hip-hop categories, judged by an international panel. The cultural programme will include workshops with world-class breakers, live concerts, graffiti exhibition, and DJ sets.

The September programme also includes a national breakdancing tournament on September 20 in Sofia's North Park and a school tour starting September 25 that will introduce children and young people to breaking and an active lifestyle. The events come as Bulgarian athletes prepare for the country's historic first participation in breaking at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026 in November.
