FIFA accuses UEFA of ‘defamation campaign’ against Infantino

FIFA and UEFA are clashing over a $4.2 billion investment project that envisioned private investors becoming involved in the commercial rights to the World Cup and other FIFA competitions.

FIFA withdrew the project on August 1 following strong opposition, but the dispute has now reached the U.S. courts, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

In a document filed with a federal court in Colorado, FIFA accused UEFA of conducting a “defamation campaign” against President Gianni Infantino and asked for its requests for documents to be postponed or dismissed.

UEFA, meanwhile, claims that the project could have allowed Infantino and a small group around him to profit from FIFA’s most valuable assets.

UEFA has also called for an independent investigation into the project and warned that it could support an alternative candidate to Infantino if he runs for another term next year.
