Serbia’s SNS names Vučić as Prime Minister candidate

The Main Board of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) decided that incumbent Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will head the United Serbia electoral list in the upcoming parliamentary elections and will be its candidate for prime minister if the list wins.

Before the Main Board adopted the decisions, SNS President Miloš Vučević announced that the SNS list in the upcoming elections would be called “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia,” N1 Serbia reported.

Vučević said that, on one side, there would be their list, consisting of people who are not ashamed of their names and surnames, with a programme and, in his words, the “most capable statesman” at the top of the list – Vučić, CE Report quotes FENA.

On the other side, he said, would be all the other lists, arguing that all votes cast for other lists, directly or indirectly, would go to the “blockader side.”

“The choice is simple: our list, Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia, and all the other lists, directly or indirectly representing the blockaders. Or even more simply, imagine a country led by Đokić and Šoškić, or one led by Aleksandar Vučić,” Vučević said.

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić said that elections are ahead for Serbia and therefore the prime minister and “head of the list” should be Aleksandar Vučić, whom she said was the only person, together with the United Serbia list, capable of standing in the way of the “evil hanging over the country.”

“Resistance every day, everywhere. Until victory, more convincingly than ever before,” Brnabić said at the open session of the SNS Main Board.

She added that the SNS was not fighting against students, claiming that they were on Vučić’s side, but against “those who organized them from abroad into blockaders with the aim of overthrowing Vučić,” because he is the “personification of an empowered, sovereign Serbia” and they want to turn it into a subservient state.

“We are against those who organized them from abroad to remain anonymous, faceless ghosts. We will have more students on our list than they will have on the so-called student list,” Brnabić said.

Milenko Jovanov, head of the parliamentary group “Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia Must Not Stop,” said that the other lists consisted of “faceless people,” that the students were a “fig leaf” for non-governmental organizations, and that Vučić was “too Serbian and too much his own man” for the opposing side.
