EuroVolley 2026 kicks off in Sofia
EuroVolley 2026 begins in the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Wednesday, with more than 120,000 fans expected to attend the men’s European Championship matches in the city. Bulgaria is co-hosting the tournament alongside Italy, Romania and Finland.
A total of 24 teams are taking part in the championship. Sofia will host the largest number of matches, with 21 games scheduled from Group B through the round of 16 and quarterfinal stages between September 9 and 22, CE Report quotes BTA.
The tournament final will be played on September 26 in Milan.
Bulgaria will open its EuroVolley 2026 campaign at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Arena 8888, where the 2025 world runners-up will face North Macedonia.
A range of sports activities will also be organized in six city parks throughout the tournament. A dedicated fan zone will be set up near Arena 8888, while two additional locations across Sofia will feature special installations where supporters can watch Bulgaria’s matches.
The tournament is expected to bring a festive atmosphere to the Bulgarian capital as fans gather to support the national team and follow the European championship action.
