CFR Cluj shocks Romanian Superliga leaders
CFR Cluj defeated Rapid București, the leaders of the Romanian Superliga, with a score of 3–0 (0–0) on Sunday evening, at home, in a match from the 17th round.
CFR opened the scoring through Andrei Cordea (48), after a combination with Louis Munteanu and Meriton Korenica. Cordea completed his brace (71) after goalkeeper Marian Aioani dropped a shot from Korenica. The Kosovar Korenica closed the scoring (77) after a cross from Munteanu, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
The Cluj team had chances in the first half through Munteanu (5), whose shot was saved by Aioani. The goalkeeper then distinguished himself on a deflected ball by Lars Kramer (8) from a cross by Tidiane Keita. Korenica (12) also shot, but Aioani saved.
Rapid had only one chance in the first half, in the 34th minute, when Claudiu Petrila sent the ball past goalkeeper Otto Hindrich, but Sheriff Sinyan cleared it off the goal line.
In the second half, Tobias Christensen (52) shot over the bar from 16 meters, while CFR created more opportunities. Munteanu shot straight at the goalkeeper (57), and then Aioani saved another shot of his (63).
Rapid came into the match after five wins and one draw.
CFR achieved two consecutive victories for the first time this season.
