FIFA president hails Messi's World Cup record
FIFA president Gianni Infantino congratulated Argentine star Lionel Messi after he became the all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history, thanks to his brace against Austria on Monday at Dallas Stadium in Group J of the tournament hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
"The incredible @leomessi now holds the record on his own with 18 goals. Congratulations and thank you for bringing so much joy and inspiring people around the world with such consistency and excellence," Infantino wrote on his Instagram account.
Similarly, Colombian singer Shakira, who watched the match from a VIP box in Dallas alongside her children, said she was proud of the Argentine captain.
"I am so proud of you, Leo, and of everything you achieve for your family, your country and all Latin Americans. Your commitment and dedication are an example to many. Keep shining!" the famous singer posted.
Shakira, who performs one of the World Cup anthems, "Dai, Dai", is set to perform in Dallas on Tuesday as part of her U.S. tour, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" ("Women No Longer Cry").
