Bulgaria described the recently signed Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership with Armenia as an important element of Sofia’s active foreign policy toward the South Caucasus region.
This was said by the source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, in an exclusive interview with CE Report.
According to the source, Bulgaria continues to develop “fruitful and multifaceted cooperation” with all South Caucasus countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, emphasizing the deep historical and cultural ties, as well as longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation connecting the countries.
The ministry source stressed that Bulgaria’s relations with the South Caucasus states also contribute to strengthening the priorities of the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy in a region that is becoming increasingly important for European security and prosperity.
Particular attention was placed on strengthening infrastructure, transport, energy and technological connectivity, alongside expanding economic and trade relations.
The Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Bulgaria and Armenia was signed on May 3, 2026, in Yerevan. The source also highlighted the role of the Joint Bulgarian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Industrial, Trade and Technical Cooperation as an “optimal platform” for planning specific forms of cooperation and monitoring implementation of the agreements reached. The latest session of the commission was held in Sofia in July 2025.
In addition, regularly held bilateral political consultations between the foreign ministries of Bulgaria and Armenia were described as a key mechanism for transforming political intentions into concrete results in political dialogue and regional and international cooperation.
