US, Poland sign $4B loan guarantee for military purchases

The United States and Poland have signed a $4 billion loan guarantee agreement to finance purchases of U.S. military equipment.

This is the sixth such agreement between the two countries, bringing the total value of financing provided to Poland through the U.S. Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program to more than $19 billion, CE Report quotes STA.

The new funds will be used to finance contracts already signed as well as future purchases for the Polish Armed Forces. Equipment Poland is acquiring from the United States includes F-35 fighter jets, Abrams tanks, Apache helicopters, Patriot air defense systems and HIMARS rocket systems.

Poland has significantly increased its defense spending and accelerated the modernization of its armed forces in recent years, while also taking into account lessons learned from the war in Ukraine when planning its procurement.

The program provides more favorable financing for purchases of U.S. weapons and military equipment, but does not constitute non-repayable aid.
