North Macedonia updates essential medicines list after more than decade
Minister of Health Sašo Klekovski presented the long-awaited update of North Macedonia’s List of Essential Medicines, the first comprehensive revision in more than ten years.
The presentation was held together with Akim Ali from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Zoran Sterjev from the Faculty of Pharmacy, СE Report informs via the Ministry of Health of North Macedonia's official Facebook page.
Key changes include:
Contraceptives and nicotine replacement therapy added to the list for the first time
193 new medicines and active substances included
12 medicines removed
Coverage expanded across 28 therapeutic areas, including oncology, cardiology, neurology, HIV and reproductive health
“Health policy should not only treat disease, but also actively protect and promote the health of the population,” Minister Klekovski stated.
Officials described the updated list as an important step toward a more modern and equitable healthcare system for all citizens of North Macedonia.
