Estonia backs Moldova’s EU integration path - EXCLUSIVE
Eugen Caras emphasized the strong and steadily growing partnership between Moldova and Estonia, highlighting Estonia’s important role in supporting Moldova’s path toward European integration.
This was said by Eugen Caras, Ambassador of Moldova in Estonia, in an exclusive interview with CE Report.
Estonia is one of Moldova’s most committed partners in its European Union accession process, with bilateral cooperation focused on building a more resilient and future-oriented state.
According to Ambassador Caras, both political dialogue and sectoral cooperation are aligned with Moldova’s EU aspirations. Estonia’s experience in areas such as digital governance, institutional reform, and cybersecurity provides valuable models and best practices. Moldovan institutions and experts continue to benefit from close cooperation with their Estonian counterparts through ongoing projects.
In the context of regional security challenges, cooperation between Moldova and Estonia has intensified within European frameworks. Estonian institutions contribute significantly to strengthening Moldova’s resilience against hybrid threats and external pressures. The e-Governance Academy has played a key role in supporting Moldova’s digital development. Through initiatives like the EU-supported Rapid Assistance Project for Cybersecurity, Moldova’s cybersecurity capacity has been considerably improved.
Estonia also supports Moldova in defense and security. Through the European Peace Facility, it contributes to the modernization of Moldova’s National Army. Additional assistance is provided through the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova, helping to strengthen institutional capacity.
Looking ahead, both countries aim to expand bilateral cooperation, especially in economic relations, innovation, and knowledge transfer. Ambassador Caras noted that Estonian companies such as Bolt and Aquaphor have recently entered the Moldovan market, reflecting growing economic ties. Efforts are also underway to increase Moldovan exports to Estonia.
Education and innovation remain key priorities. Estonia continues to support Moldova by training students and public officials, particularly in EU-related fields, contributing to Moldova’s reform process and integration efforts.
