Slovenia approves Tesla’s supervised full self-driving technology

Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has received regulatory approval for its advanced full self-driving (FSD) system under supervision in Slovenia.

The roll-out will begin soon through over-the-air software updates, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

The Netherlands became the first European country to approve FSD in supervised form in April 2026. The system is also available in Denmark, Belgium, Estonia and Lithuania, making Slovenia the sixth European country to take this step.

Tesla announced the news on X on 7 September. Infrastructure Minister Jernej Vrtovec reacted to the announcement saying "A Slovenia of development."

Slovenia has so far been rather reserved when it comes to frontier technologies such as FSD, but the new right-wing government has indicated it will pursue a lighter regulatory touch.

The FSD (Supervised) feature in its current form requires the driver to remain actively attentive. The vehicle is not autonomous when the feature is enabled, Tesla says, and the driver remains responsible for all manoeuvres at all times while driving.

According to Tesla, FSD is a suite of advanced driver-assistance features that can enable a vehicle to drive almost anywhere under the driver's active supervision.

Designed to take care of the most stressful parts of daily driving and help improve safety, FSD (Supervised) can take over steering on city streets, drive through intersections, automatically change lanes and perform other manoeuvres. The system learns in much the same way humans do - through experience.

Tesla is currently the leading electric vehicle brand in Slovenia, and its Model Y was the best-selling model across all categories in August, according to Chamber of Trade data.
