Moldova signals stronger ties with new Hungarian leadership

Maia Sandu, President of Moldova, sent a congratulatory message to opposition leader Péter Magyar following his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections in Hungary, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The head of state emphasized Moldova’s openness to strengthening bilateral relations and highlighted the importance of cooperation in the context of the European integration process.

“Congratulations to Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party on this clear victory. Moldova looks forward to accelerating our partnership with Hungary, based on the friendship that unites our peoples, and to working together for a stronger, more united, and more resilient Europe,” Sandu wrote on the X platform.

With 98.13% of votes counted, the Tisza Party, led by Magyar, is ahead with 138 seats, while Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz–KDNP alliance holds 55 seats.

In percentage terms, Tisza secured 53.62% of the vote, compared to 37.79% for Fidesz–KDNP.
