More than 300 draft normative acts aimed at harmonizing national legislation with the legislation of the European Union will be examined this year by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

The topic was discussed during an event held at Parliament dedicated to the role of the Commission for European Integration in preparing the country for EU accession, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The event was organized at the midpoint of the implementation period of the Twinning Project “Strengthening the capacities of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and its role in the process of accession to the European Union.”

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Commission for European Integration, MP Marcel Spatari, members of the commission, the leadership and representatives of the Parliament Secretariat, as well as representatives of the legislatures of Romania, Greece, Italy, Hungary, and Austria. Representatives of the EU Delegation in Moldova were also present.

Discussions focused on strengthening the capacity of the Commission for European Integration in managing draft legislative acts marked with the EU label and addressing the increased workload related to harmonizing national legislation with the EU acquis. Procedures for parliamentary oversight and the role of the commission in the decision-making process during the pre-accession period were also addressed.

The Chairman of the Commission for European Integration, Marcel Spatari, emphasized the importance of cooperation with European partners in this process.

“We are grateful to all partners for their support. It is important for us to learn from the experience of our partners, as we still have much work to do. For this year alone, more than 300 draft normative acts are planned with the goal of harmonizing national legislation with EU legislation,” the MP said.

For his part, the Twinning project leader Vasilios Svolopoulos highlighted the important role of the Commission for European Integration in the country’s path toward the European Union. According to him, the commission’s work is essential for the Parliament and for Moldova as a whole in the context of European integration.

The EU-funded Twinning project aims to strengthen the capacities of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in the EU accession process, including through the harmonization of legislation with the EU acquis and the improvement of monitoring and parliamentary oversight mechanisms. The project is implemented by a consortium led by the Parliament of Greece in partnership with the parliaments of Romania, Italy, Hungary, and Austria for the period from February 3, 2025, to February 2, 2027.
