Poland accelerates military modernisation under SAFE Programme
At the Museum of the Battle of Warsaw 1920 in Ossów, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz attended a ceremony awarding medals and distinctions to soldiers and employees of the Polish Armed Forces on the occasion of Polish Armed Forces Day.
The event was also attended by senior officials of the Ministry of National Defence and commanders of the Polish Armed Forces, CE Report informs via the Ministry of National Defence of Poland's official website.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and thanks to all those honoured, as well as to your families, commanders, superiors and loved ones, for your service every day. The recipients were awarded state medals, state and Ministry of National Defence distinctions, ceremonial weapons, letters of congratulations and ryngraf plaques. Different branches of the armed forces, different stories and different activities. From those resulting from conscientious service, to acts of heroism and saving lives even outside official duty, to representing Poland on international sporting arenas as athletes in uniform, and all those who diligently perform their duties and distinguish themselves. (...) There will be more such awards across Poland. I would like to extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to all Polish soldiers for what you do every day for our security,” the Defence Minister said.
During the ceremony, soldiers, Ministry of National Defence employees, military units and institutions, as well as representatives of allied armed forces, were honoured. Awards and distinctions were presented for outstanding service, achievements and acts requiring courage, heroism and self-sacrifice.
“The people leading today’s ceremony gradually introduced us to various programmes. One of them is the extraordinary SAFE programme – meaning an acceleration of modernisation. (...) The transformation of the army concerns primarily the land forces. Over the past year, the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles we had been waiting for so long were delivered to the 16th Division in Warmia and Masuria. More Krab, K9, K2 and Abrams systems are arriving. Modern equipment is being delivered. We are fulfilling as quickly as possible all the requirements that can be met both in Poland and by our allies, in Polish industry and among our allies.
“The Air Force received its first three F-35s this year. Another dozen or so will arrive before the end of the year, while FA-50 aircraft will soon gradually enter full service. Ahead of us is the procurement of aerial refuelling and transport aircraft. (...) We also have cyber forces and 15 contracts concerning artificial intelligence, the use of digital resources and information protection. This is complemented by the entire development of drone forces. Not long ago, just three years ago, tens or sometimes hundreds of millions were being spent on drones. Now more than 25 billion [zlotys] is being invested in drones across all units and in education and training in this field. It is very important for us to be able to build the strength and capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces on the basis of the most advanced technologies,” the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.
Among the distinctions presented were the “Polish Armed Forces Medals,” entries of merit in the “Honorary Book of the Polish Armed Forces,” “Armed Forces in Service of the Homeland” medals and “For Merits to National Defence” medals.
Members of allied armed forces and individuals distinguished by exceptional achievements in service were also honoured. Ceremonial ryngraf plaques were presented to soldiers who demonstrated courage, heroism and self-sacrifice while saving human lives and protecting health. Military athletes from the Central Military Sports Team and the Territorial Defence Forces Training Centre were also recognised.
Employees of the Office of the Minister of National Defence received commemorative certificates.
Military units and institutions were also honoured for their outstanding achievements and commitment to carrying out their duties. The honorary title of “Leading Unit of the Polish Armed Forces” was awarded to:
- 15th Gołdap Anti-Aircraft Regiment;
- 1st Airlift Base;
- 10th Wrocław Signal Brigade;
- 21st Podhale Rifle Brigade;
- FORMOZA Military Unit.
The Regional IT Centre Warsaw received the honorary title of “Leading Military Institution.”
The awards and distinctions presented were an expression of recognition for soldiers and Ministry of National Defence employees for their daily service, professionalism, commitment and outstanding achievements. The ceremony also highlighted the importance of military service and the contribution of those whose work and dedication strengthen the security of the Republic of Poland.
“I thank everyone who works every day to build the strength of the Polish Armed Forces. Congratulations to those who have been honoured. And to all my fellow citizens, I thank you for supporting the transformation of the Polish Armed Forces and for loving the uniform of a Polish soldier. Long live Poland. Long live the Polish Armed Forces,” the Defence Minister said.
