Trump asks Supreme Court to allow third-country deportations

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to once again allow migrants to be deported to third countries with which they have no ties.

According to The Hill, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has asked the court to overturn its decision preventing migrants from being sent to third countries, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

The Trump administration has taken the case back to the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn a court ruling that requires migrants to be given an opportunity to raise claims that they could face torture or mistreatment before being deported to third countries.

U.S. Deputy Solicitor General John Sauer said the ruling had “caused chaos” and therefore argued that judges should suspend the decision until they hear the administration’s appeal.

Emphasizing that the court ruling had created significant logistical problems for immigration authorities, Sauer said DHS had been forced to cancel a flight that was scheduled to transport 70 people with criminal records to three countries.

Sauer argued that the ruling could lead to additional costs and diplomatic problems, and also claimed that it prevents the deportation of “dangerous criminals.”
