Latvia to consolidate police units in Jelgava - EXCLUSIVE

Several State Police units in Jelgava will move to new premises at Rūpniecības iela 39, allowing multiple departments to be brought together at a single location.

This was said by the source in the Latvian Ministry of Interior Affair, in an exclusive interview with CE Report.

On Tuesday, September 15, the Latvian Cabinet authorized the Ministry of the Interior to undertake long-term financial commitments, enabling the State Police to enter into a lease agreement for the new premises.

The property at Rūpniecības iela 39 was selected through a rental offer process organized by the State Real Estate Agency. The location was considered suitable for accommodating several State Police units in one building.

The new premises will provide a modern working environment that meets current requirements, including appropriate office space, sanitary facilities, parking areas and shared facilities necessary for daily operations. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the new working environment will be safer, more functional and better suited to the State Police’s operational needs.

Improving the quality of the working environment is also expected to have a positive impact on employee satisfaction. The move will address several shortcomings identified at the current locations, including problems with the technical condition of the premises, limited shared facilities and the fact that different units are currently spread across several addresses.

An inspection and assessment of the building at Rūpniecības iela 39 found that its technical characteristics, location, available infrastructure and internal layout are suitable for accommodating State Police personnel.

The necessary construction work and installation of engineering networks have already been completed at the property. Some additional adaptation work will be carried out to meet the State Police’s specific requirements, including security standards and the functional configuration of the premises.

The planned annual rent for the property in 2027 is €217,557. From 2028 through 2038, the annual rent is expected to amount to €329,349. In 2039, the planned rent for six months will be €164,674.

The relocation is intended to consolidate several State Police units in Jelgava while providing employees with improved working conditions and premises better adapted to the needs of police operations.
