A delegation from Moldova’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) held discussions with officials from Germany, the Netherlands, and INTERPOL on enhancing border security and tackling cross-border crime. The meetings took place during the Munich Security Conference, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Moldova plans to expand information exchange with INTERPOL and deploy officers to the organization to improve coordination in investigations of organized crime and terrorism. Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin met with INTERPOL Deputy Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza to discuss operational cooperation and the implementation of advanced security technologies.

Talks with Germany’s State Secretary Hans-Georg Engelke focused on strengthening border security, combating illegal migration, and countering hybrid threats. Enhanced information exchange with German partners will improve border control and public safety.

With the Netherlands, discussions with State Secretary David van Weel addressed combating disinformation, monitoring security risks, and enhancing cybersecurity. The Netherlands supports Moldova’s security infrastructure through the EU Partnership Mission, aiding modernization and specialist training in cybercrime prevention.

Another key topic was Moldova’s integration into the EU’s digital ecosystem through a European digital identity project, facilitating secure access to modern services.

The Moldovan delegation also met with Bavarian Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann to discuss ongoing police cooperation and joint security initiatives aimed at improving public safety and operational efficiency.

President Maia Sandu, attending the conference alongside a government delegation, emphasized the importance of European unity in maintaining regional security. Highlighting Moldova’s commitment to peace, she stated: “No one wants peace more than Ukraine. And we in Moldova want peace – a lasting peace that keeps us in the free world.”

The Munich Security Conference, a leading global security forum, gathered over 50 heads of state and 100 foreign affairs and defense ministers to discuss pressing international security issues.
