Poland Reinstates Border Checks
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania will be reinstated starting Monday, July 7. The decision, made for security and organizational reasons, aims to strengthen Poland's response to illegal migration, CE Report quotes PAP
Military units will support the Border Guard in monitoring both official crossings and green border areas. Tusk emphasized that individuals attempting to cross the border illegally will be detained and returned.
The regulation formalizing these measures is being prepared by the interior ministry. Tusk also noted that Germany may extend its own border checks beyond September, prompting a "symmetrical" response from Poland.
While reinforcing border security, Tusk assured that efforts will be made to minimize the impact on ordinary citizens and to limit the duration of the controls. The move comes amid heightened tensions and claims from right-wing groups that Germany is pushing migrants into Poland.
