HINA Director elected secretary general of Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies
HINA Director Branka-Gabriela Vojvodić was elected Secretary General of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) at a meeting held in Marrakesh.
She took over the role from Georg Panintéax, who served for more than two decades, CE Report quotes HINA.
"The reason I decided to stand as a candidate for this position is not due to dissatisfaction with previous work, but quite the opposite, the idea that we have matured enough, that we have, metaphorically speaking, reached adulthood, and that as an organisation and as individuals we are ready for new, perhaps more ambitious tasks," Vojvodić said upon her election.
"I’m extremely proud of this role, because I see Croatia as deeply rooted in the Mediterranean environment, and I like the idea that our country is leading the way in developing shared values from across the Mediterranean basin," she added.
AMAN was founded in 1991 in Tunisia with the aim of strengthening cooperation among news agencies from countries along the Mediterranean shores.
AMAN is guided by values such as equality, tolerance, mutual respect and professionalism. It is a non-political news organisation that covers a wide range of topics, excluding politics, increasingly focusing on sustainability, green economy and the preservation of the Mediterranean lifestyle, traditions and culture from both shores of the sea.
Key topics of dialogue among Mediterranean news agencies include democratisation, human rights, socio-economic, cultural and scientific development, environmental issues, migration, and peace and security in the region.
AMAN comprises 20 agencies from the northern and southern Mediterranean. Hina hosted an AMAN conference in Dubrovnik in September 2022, which resulted in the adoption of a declaration on sustainability, making all AMAN members also members of the UN SDG Media Compact.
