Moldovan Prime Minister Discusses New Benefits for War Veterans

Prime Minister Dorin Recean met with representatives of Moldova’s war veterans' associations to discuss enhanced support measures outlined in the draft Law on Veterans, set to take effect on January 1, 2025, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Recean expressed gratitude to the working group involved in drafting the law and emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening social protection. Under the new legislation, monthly allowances for veterans will double compared to 2021, reaching 1,610 lei and benefiting approximately 26,400 individuals.

For the first time, veterans who participated in two or more wars will receive an additional monthly allowance of 348 lei. Moreover, 692 veterans with disabilities due to war will see their monthly benefits rise to 2,254 lei. Other benefits for veterans are also slated for increases.

The draft law includes provisions for triple crediting of combat service time toward pension calculations. Currently, 27,600 veterans receive social benefits. The law is expected to pass its second reading in parliament shortly.
