Recent reports suggesting that Slovenia has formally proposed a cooperation agreement with Croatia regarding the construction of the Krško 2 nuclear power plant have prompted clarifications from the Slovenian government.

Questions were raised about several aspects of the potential deal, including the specific rights and obligations associated with a proposed 25% ownership stake for Croatia, the reasons for excluding management rights for Croatia under the current proposal, and the potential for Croatian involvement in operational or strategic decision-making in the future. Additionally, inquiries concerned the project’s timeline and its place within the broader framework of bilateral energy cooperation between Slovenia and Croatia.

In an exclusive interview with CE Report, the Public Relations Office of the Prime Minister of Slovenia stated:

“The Republic of Slovenia has not made any official offer to the Republic of Croatia for co-investment in the JEK2 project.”

The office emphasized that Slovenia and Croatia are engaged in regular dialogue.

At the last bilateral meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Vinica, Prime Minister Golob informed his Croatian counterpart about the activities related to preparations for the decision on building a new nuclear power plant in Krško,” concluded the office.
