Canadian singer Nelly Furtado has revealed that she will be stepping away from concerts and tours for an indefinite period, according to The FoxNews.

The “I’m Like a Bird” hitmaker made the announcement in an Instagram post, CE Report quotes ATA.

“I have decided to step back from performing in the near future and dedicate myself to other creative and personal projects that align more with this stage of my life,” she wrote.

The Canadian artist thanked her fans and collaborators “for all these years of entertainment, community, and wonder” since the release of her debut album Whoa, Nelly in 2000.

“I have immensely enjoyed my career and continue to love songwriting, which I have always seen as a hobby that I was lucky enough to turn into a profession. I will forever identify as a singer-songwriter,” she added.

Furtado also shared an encouraging message for young artists, wishing them “many years of inspiring and passionate performances.”

Even though the Grammy winner is stepping away from the stage, her music continues to be discovered by new generations through social media. In August, she told E! News:

“It’s surreal and such a joy to see so many people rediscovering my music. It has been amazing to return to the stage and witness firsthand the enduring power of good music. It has truly made me believe in magic,” she said.
