Bad Bunny to headline Super Bowl halftime show
Puerto Rican rapper and Grammy winner Bad Bunny will headline the halftime show of next year’s Super Bowl, the NFL has announced, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Earlier this month, Bad Bunny revealed that he would not perform in the United States during his upcoming world tour — set to begin in November — citing concerns about U.S. immigration raids at his concerts. Despite this, he will take center stage at the championship game scheduled for February 8 in Santa Clara, California.
“What I feel goes beyond myself,” the artist said in a statement released by the NFL. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards to let me in and score a touchdown… This is for my people, my culture, and our history.”
Speculation had linked American pop icon Taylor Swift — who is dating Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce — to the halftime show. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently said the league “would have loved” to have her. “She’s a special talent, and of course she would be welcome anytime,” he noted. However, reports suggest Swift declined the opportunity to perform.
Super Bowl halftime shows traditionally attract the biggest names in music. Past performers include Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, and Paul McCartney. More recently, stars such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar have taken the stage. Bad Bunny previously appeared at the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami, performing alongside Jennifer Lopez.
