Zagreb Museum Weekend opens with exhibition of donated artworks

The second edition of the Zagreb Museum Weekend (MUV) in Croatia, taking place from September 3 to 6, was opened on Thursday at the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery by Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.

The first event on the programme is an exhibition of donated artworks from the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery collection, CE Report quotes HINA.

The exhibition, “Foundation for the Future – Collection of Donated Artworks of the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery,” features artworks donated by artists or their heirs following exhibitions at Klovićevi Dvori. The exhibition was curated by Danijela Markotić, who also designed the exhibition layout together with Petra Vugrinec.

The collection consists primarily of works by Croatian artists created from the mid-20th century to the present day, including Slavko Šohaj, Ferdinand Kulmer, Maksimilijan Vanka, Željko Hegedušić, Ivan Picelj, Josip Vaništa, Petar Barišić, Kažimir Hraste, Željko Senečić, Antun Motika and many others.

Among the foreign artists represented, curator Danijela Markotić highlighted Moon Shin and Roger Bertemes.

A Collection That Grows with the Gallery

Klovićevi Dvori Director Antonio Picukarić said the exhibition is the first independent public presentation of a collection that has been growing alongside the gallery for more than 40 years and now comprises more than 100 diverse works of art.

“The collection testifies to how, as a gallery without an initial permanent collection, we gained the trust of audiences and artists through decades of exhibitions and became a place that preserves works of the present for the future,” he said, adding that in 2025 the gallery opened a small exhibition space on the second floor for this purpose.

Although Klovićevi Dvori does not have a permanent exhibition, it manages seven collections.

Four are owned by the gallery: the Oskar Herman Collection, Slavko Kopač Collection, Collection of Donated Artworks of the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, and Kviz Collection. Three others were entrusted to it by the City of Zagreb: the Dr. Vinko Perčić Memorial Collection, Josip Crnobori Collection, and Josip Restek Collection.
