“Femininology” exhibition brings Croatian, Italian women artists together
The international multimedia exhibition “Femininology,” dedicated to women’s creativity and bringing together contemporary visual art from Croatia and Italy, opened at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.
Over the past 12 years, the project has established itself as one of the prominent exhibition platforms for presenting recent visual art by women artists, CE Report quotes HINA.
It also explores sociological, anthropological and cultural themes, connects peoples and their traditions, and brings together contemporary and traditional forms of expression.
Under the artistic concept and professional curatorial guidance of Sanda Stanaćev Bajzek, president of HULULK, and Elena Agosti, director of the Villa Lattes Museum, a total of 20 women artists and one artistic collective will present their work.
According to the curators, the exhibition does not focus on any specific artistic niche but celebrates the diversity and richness of visual expression in women’s creativity. It gives artists the opportunity to express their individuality without being predefined by any particular system, allowing them to speak exclusively through their personal experiences and art.
The joint programme also seeks to establish new structural frameworks for cooperation and challenge established stereotypes by highlighting the multifaceted nature of women’s identities and the need to change entrenched patterns of thought and behaviour.
The goal of this year’s edition is to launch long-term international cooperation between the Croatian Association of Visual Artists and Art Critics (HULULK) and Italian cultural institutions, with the Villa Lattes Museum in Treviso and the Municipality of Istrana participating this year.
Italian Ambassador Paolo Trichilo said at the opening that the exhibition exemplifies dynamic cooperation and synergy between Croatia and Italy in the cultural and artistic fields, with a particular emphasis on contemporary artistic research.
Gian Luca Borghese, director of the Italian Cultural Centre, said the relationship between HULULK and the Villa Lattes Museum, with the participation of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb and the Municipality of Istrana in Italy, goes beyond simple cooperation between two cultural institutions. Instead, it creates the foundations for a network of professional relationships among Italian and Croatian institutions, artists and curators.
Vera Šimić-Jajčinović, representing the Mayor of Zagreb, greeted those attending on behalf of the city, while Tomislav Bilić welcomed them on behalf of the Archaeological Museum, noting that the museum was honoured to host the international multimedia exhibition for the third consecutive time.
Previous editions of the project have featured participants from North Macedonia, Slovakia, Serbia, Austria, Slovenia and Hungary.
This year’s Croatian artists are Marija Boban, Andreja Hojnik Fišić, Irena Gayatri Horvat, Barbara Jugovac, Jelena Martinović, Martina Muraro, Jasmina Pacek, Jagoda Popović, Tara Beata Ratz, Gabrijela Šimić and Margareta Vidmar.
The participating Italian artists are Marina Mabe Bertagnin, Mariarosaria Caramia, Elisabetta D’Arienzo, Silvia Di Piazza, Dagmar Friedrich, Raffaella Rivi, Angelica Tulimiero, Francesca Dafne Vignaga and Alice Walczer Baldinazzo, alongside the artistic collective CLEANART – Le tessitrici d’acqua.
As part of the exhibition programme, an art therapy lecture and workshop led by Jasmina Pacek will take place on Wednesday, October 14, addressing the timely topic of “The Mental Health of the Contemporary Woman Through the Lens of Individual Responsibility.”
The exhibition will remain open until October 31, with a reciprocal presentation planned in Treviso, Italy.
