Strong earthquake rocks Italy

A4.2 magnitude earthquake rocked the provinces of Potenza and Matera in the southern region of Basilicata.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) said the quake occurred just after 10am some six kilometres from the province of Potenza town of Vaglio at a depth of 14.3 kilometres, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Pupils were evacuated from some schools and many office workers took to the streets.

There were no initial reports of anyone being hurt or of major damage.
