Apple expands Broadcom partnership with deal expected to exceed $30 billion
U.S. technology company Apple announced that its expanded partnership with semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom is expected to be worth more than $30 billion.
In a statement, Apple said it had made a new commitment to Broadcom covering the design and production of custom silicon components and advanced wireless connectivity technologies that will be used in a range of Apple products, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Under the agreement, which is expected to exceed $30 billion in value, more than 15 billion chips will be manufactured in the United States. The company also said the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs.
Apple noted that Broadcom will invest $1.5 billion to expand and modernize its manufacturing facilities in Fort Collins, Colorado, as part of the agreement.
The company added that the investment forms part of Apple’s broader commitment to invest $600 billion in the U.S. economy over the next four years, with the goal of supporting domestic manufacturing, job creation, and technological innovation across the country.
Earlier this week, Broadcom disclosed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it had reached an agreement with Apple to extend their collaboration on the development and supply of custom-designed chips through 2031.
