Children adopt AI three times faster than adults, says UNICEF

The United Nations Children's Fund says children are adopting artificial intelligence technologies three times faster than adults.

The statement was published on UNICEF's website ahead of the first Global Dialogue on AI Governance, which will take place in Geneva on July 6-7.

According to UNICEF, an analysis based on new data from 10 countries estimates that at least 20 million children are already using artificial intelligence. The organization said children are adopting AI at a rate up to three times faster than adults, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

UNICEF noted that AI is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life and is already shaping childhood experiences around the world. Of the estimated 20 million children using AI globally, around 2 million—roughly one in every 10—have turned to AI for advice on issues that concern them.

The organization also estimated that about 13 million children use AI to support learning and complete school assignments. UNICEF warned that while children's use of AI is accelerating rapidly, regulations—including safeguards designed to protect children—are struggling to keep pace with the technology's adoption.
