Tech & Science

Russia has enacted a law introducing administrative fines for websites that allow users to log in or authenticate using foreign services, including Apple ID and Google ID.

Under the new regulation, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 26, users in Russia will be required to access and authenticate on websites through domestic systems, such as a Russian phone number or the Gosuslugi public services portal. Individuals, officials, and companies that violate the rule will face administrative fines, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

Several digital services operating in Russia have already begun notifying users that authorization via Apple ID and Google ID will no longer be available.

In recent years, Russia has expanded regulations aimed at promoting domestic digital infrastructure and ensuring that user data is stored and protected within the country.
