Bulgaria sends nine judokas to World Championships in Baku

Bulgaria will be represented by nine judokas at the World Judo Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The competition will begin on Sunday, while the draw will take place on Saturday, October 3.

Bulgaria’s leading judokas will compete at the championships, headed by experienced Ivaylo Ivanov in the 90kg category. A three-time Olympian, Ivanov has won numerous medals at prestigious international competitions, CE Report quotes BTA.

A total of 634 judokas from 96 countries will take part in the championships. On the opening day, Sunday, October 4, the lightest weight categories will be contested — 60kg for men and 48kg for women. There will be no Bulgarian competitors in either category.

The first Bulgarian judokas to step onto the tatami will be Gabriela Dimitrova (52kg) and Boyan Yotov (66kg) on Monday, October 5.

The Bulgarian delegation is headed by Bulgarian Judo Federation President Rumen Stoilov. The coaching staff includes head coach Georgi Georgiev, an Olympic bronze medallist who recently also became a world champion among veterans, as well as assistant coaches Gancho Doykov and Krasimir Hristov.
