Japanese convenience store chain FamilyMart has chosen Lady Gaga for a recruitment campaign, turning the pop star into a store employee for a shift in a new commercial titled “Killah,” set to her song of the same name.

The black-and-white video, with the exception of the green and blue colors of the company’s logo, shows the international pop star working in a store to the rhythm of the music, according to Japanese online newspaper Japan Today, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Gaga wears a futuristic reinterpretation of the new uniforms introduced for FamilyMart employees earlier this month, featuring the words “FamilyMart Staff” on the shirt.

Despite its Japanese setting, the commercial was filmed in Los Angeles at a studio designed to recreate one of the chain’s stores.

Gaga has not visited Japan since January. In an interview following the shoot, the singer said she had visited FamilyMart stores during previous trips to the country and particularly enjoyed sushi, cold soba noodles and Famichiki, the chain’s boneless fried chicken prepared in stores.

The commercial, which will air on Japanese television and be shown inside FamilyMart stores, aims to generate interest in jobs at the company’s outlets.

Using well-known entertainment figures in commercial campaigns, including recruitment initiatives, is an established practice in Japan.

Japan Today noted that the campaign could boost the company’s image and, in turn, recruitment in a sector struggling to fill shifts amid the country’s demographic decline.
