Türkiye dreams of Olympic golds in Archery at Los Angeles 2028

National Archery Teams Technical Director Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin said, “The medals we have won in competitions ahead of the Olympics are making all of us dream of winning at least a few medals — including gold medals — in Los Angeles.”

Speaking to an AA correspondent in Antalya, where the national team is holding a training camp, Ergin said the achievements of Turkish national team athletes in major competitions in 2026 have been encouraging for the future, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin said that after winning medals at the 2020 and 2024 Olympics, their new goal is to win a medal with a female athlete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Stating that all preparations are focused on the 2028 Olympics, Ergin said:

“We want to go to the Olympic Games with a large number of athletes. The path to achieving this runs through the 2027 European Games and World Championships. Under the new system, obtaining an Olympic quota has become much more difficult. It has gone from being difficult to being extremely challenging. Compound bows will also compete in Los Angeles for the first time. With their inclusion in the system, the total number of quota spots for recurve archers has decreased. You have to prepare very thoroughly and achieve excellent results to secure a quota.”

“We support athletes throughout their development from the age of 15”

Emphasizing that they want to finish at the top at the European Games to be held in Istanbul, Ergin continued:

“We will also try to win medals with both our men’s and women’s teams at the World Championships in Medellín, Colombia. Our athletes have won so many impressive medals this year and in previous years that it has become impossible not to dream based on these achievements. As the Turkish national team technical director, I cannot say that I do not dream of winning multiple medals at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. The medals we have won in competitions ahead of the Olympics are making all of us dream of winning at least a few medals — including gold medals — in Los Angeles. However, we need to be measured and avoid putting too much pressure on the athletes.”

Pointing out that Türkiye has a strong system in archery, Ergin said:

“We have a very effective chain system covering national team selection, preparing the national team for international competitions and providing support during those competitions.”

Ergin said they work extremely hard to ensure that none of the stages in this chain experience disruptions, adding:

“We work with a large team. The resources provided by both our ministry and our federation are excellent. We also have a system in which we plan every aspect of our athletes’ lives and daily routines. We support their development from the age of 15. With the support of our state, we provide them with equipment, training facilities, training programs and development opportunities. Many countries are also closely following our working system. This is a source of pride for us, but it is also demanding.”

Ergin noted that they have a large national team squad, with athletes performing at similarly high levels, and emphasized that this depth of talent is one of the factors behind their success.
