Bulgaria's Nessebar bids to become European Black Sea Capital of Sport 2027

An ACES Europe evaluation committee visited Nessebar, Bulgaria, to assess the town’s bid to become European Black Sea Capital of Sport 2027.

The delegation reviewed the municipality’s sports facilities and its capacity to host children’s competitions, mass sporting events, and professional tournaments. Nessebar has invested in sports infrastructure, including stadiums, gyms, an indoor sports hall, a swimming pool, and a sailing center. More than 30 sports clubs and schools operate in the municipality, with direct support for youth sports, CE Report quotes BTA.

Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov said the city sees sport as a means of promoting discipline, health, and community engagement, not just competition and medals.

The municipality also presented its plans to expand sports infrastructure and improve access to sport for residents of all ages. Construction of a new indoor swimming pool in the Cherno More district is nearing completion and will provide year-round facilities for training, competitions, and other sporting activities.

ACES Europe President Gian Francesco Lupatelli described the visit as an important stage in the evaluation process.
