Istanbul to host 2027 Spanish Super Cup
Istanbul will host the 2027 Spanish Super Cup from February 2 to 6, bringing together four of Spanish football’s leading clubs: Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
It will be the first time the tournament has been held in Türkiye.
The 2027 edition will feature a four-team format, with the top two teams in La Liga and the two Copa del Rey finalists taking part. Real Sociedad will face Real Madrid in one semifinal, while FC Barcelona will play Atlético Madrid in the other.
The first semifinal is scheduled for February 2 at Chobani Stadium – Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex, while the second will be played on February 3 at Tüpraş Stadium. The exact allocation of the two matches between the venues will be announced later.
The Spanish Super Cup final is scheduled for February 6 at RAMS Park – Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex. The three stadiums have a combined capacity of 143,982 spectators.
The agreement to stage the competition in Istanbul was recently signed during a ceremony at the Turkish Football Federation’s Hasan Doğan National Teams Training and Education Facilities.
The event was attended by representatives of Turkish authorities and football governing bodies from Türkiye and Spain, including Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Youth and Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak, Royal Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Louzán and Turkish Football Federation President İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu.
By hosting the Spanish Super Cup, Türkiye will become the second country outside Spain to stage the competition. The tournament will take place over five days and feature two semifinals and the final.
Istanbul has extensive experience hosting major international football events. The city staged the UEFA Champions League finals in 2005 and 2023, as well as the UEFA Europa League final in 2026.
The Spanish Super Cup forms part of a broader sporting calendar planned for Istanbul in 2027. The city is also set to host the Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix and is preparing for the fourth edition of the European Games.
Alongside the sporting events, organizers are promoting Istanbul as a tourism destination for visiting football fans. Straddling Europe and Asia, the city offers attractions including Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern, as well as Bosphorus cruises and a wide range of culinary and cultural experiences.
