France condemns Russian strike on Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the Russian strike on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv, calling it an expression of the Russian regime's contempt for science and truth.
He wrote this on X, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
"The regime of Vladimir Putin struck Ukraine's largest scientific research institution — the National Academy of Sciences. These strikes are yet another indication of the Russian regime's hostile contempt for science and truth," Macron said.
According to Macron, the attack adds to Russia's daily strikes that continue to harm Ukraine's civilian population. The president expressed his condolences to those affected and their families and assured them that France and Europe would stand with Ukrainians for as long as necessary.
In a separate joint statement, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot and Minister of Higher Education, Research and Space Philippe Baptiste described the attack on civilian infrastructure as a violation of international law.
"Strikes on universities, laboratories, and centers of knowledge are an unacceptable attack on Ukraine's very future," the ministers said. France, they added, would continue cooperating with the Ukrainian scientific community and supporting efforts to document attacks on civilians and civilian facilities in order to hold those responsible accountable.
"These crimes will not go unpunished," Barrot and Baptiste emphasized.
As reported, two people were killed and seven others injured in Kyiv after a drone struck a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
