Rafael Leao handed Portugal’s iconic No. 7 shirt
Rafael Leao will wear Portugal’s No. 7 shirt against Denmark following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the national team camp.
According to the official squad list published by UEFA on the morning of the match, Leao will wear the No. 7 jersey when Portugal face Denmark at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Nations League regulations require players included in the match squad to wear numbers from 1 to 23. As a result, the No. 7 shirt, which has been associated with Ronaldo for many years, cannot remain unassigned.
The No. 7 shirt has a special place in Portuguese football history, having also been associated with legendary winger Luís Figo before Ronaldo.
Portugal are not expected to make major changes to their squad for the match against Denmark. Head coach Jorge Jesus had called up 25 players, while only 23 can be included in the matchday squad.
Ronaldo will not feature after leaving the national team camp, while Francisco Conceição is unavailable due to injury.
Leao will therefore have the special task of wearing Portugal’s iconic No. 7 shirt in Ronaldo’s absence.
