Albania makes historic Genuine Cup 2026 debut with inclusive national team
Albania's national football team for athletes with intellectual disabilities has represented the country for the first time at the Genuine Cup 2026, currently taking place in Houston, United States.
This historic participation marks an important milestone not only for Albanian football but also for promoting the values of equality, inclusion, and social responsibility through sport, CE Report informs via the Albanian Football Federation's official website.
During the group stage, the Albanian team played nine matches, recording three wins, one draw, and five defeats. Beyond the results, the team delivered commendable performances, demonstrating dedication, competitive spirit, respect for opponents, and a passion for football—values that make this experience a true success.
Participation in the Genuine Cup 2026 has given these athletes the opportunity to compete on the international stage, build new friendships, and demonstrate that football is a universal language that brings people together regardless of their abilities or challenges.
The project is part of the Albanian Football Association's (FSHF) ongoing commitment to building a more inclusive football environment and providing equal opportunities for everyone who wishes to be part of the game.
In cooperation with institutional partners and organizations supporting people with intellectual disabilities, including Autizmi Flet, Edhe Unë Mundem, and Caritas Albania, the FSHF has worked continuously to establish, develop, and prepare the national team, making its participation in international competitions possible.
For the Albanian Football Association, social responsibility is one of the key pillars of football development. Through initiatives like this, the FSHF aims to use the power of football as a tool for integration, education, and social inclusion, creating real opportunities for people from vulnerable groups to take an active role in sport and proudly represent Albania on the international stage.
The team's participation in Genuine Cup 2026 remains a significant achievement for Albanian football and demonstrates that sport can serve as a bridge that unites, inspires, and creates equal opportunities for all. Through this commitment, the FSHF once again affirms that football knows no barriers and that its values extend far beyond the final score.
