U.S. President Donald Trump is not expected to attend the opening match of the U.S. national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the United States will face Paraguay in Los Angeles, according to U.S. media reports citing sources close to the administration.

According to the reports, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will attend the match instead, representing the U.S. administration at the first World Cup game played on American soil during the tournament, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Andrew Giuliani, Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the 2026 World Cup, said that President Trump is enthusiastic about the start of the tournament but will be unable to attend the U.S. team's opening match due to other commitments. He added that a high-level delegation from the administration will be present at the stadium.

The United States is co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup together with Canada and Mexico. The tournament is the first World Cup to feature 48 national teams and a total of 104 matches.
