Türkiye advances to VNL semifinals after defeating Canada
Türkiye's Women's National Volleyball Team advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) after defeating Canada 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
Canada made the stronger start to the match, breaking a 5-5 tie in the opening set to take a 7-5 lead. Despite strong defensive efforts from Gizem Örge and effective attacking by Sinead Jack-Kısal and Hande Baladın, Türkiye was unable to overturn the deficit. Canada maintained its advantage and claimed the first set 25-22 to take a 1-0 lead in the match, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Türkiye responded in the second set with an impressive performance led by Melissa Vargas, opening an early 8-4 advantage. Capitalizing on Canada's defensive errors and dominating through the middle, the Turkish side maintained control throughout the set, extending its lead to 15-10 midway through. Türkiye carried its momentum to the finish, winning the second set 25-21 to level the match at 1-1.
