FIFA to introduce halftime show at 2026 World Cup final
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced a historic innovation for the 2026 World Cup final, confirming that for the first time a halftime music show will be organized.
The decision was made public during a speech at the World Economic Summit in Washington, D.C., where Infantino emphasized that the final on July 19 will take place at MetLife Stadium and will feature a major artistic spectacle, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
He stated that the British band Coldplay and its frontman Chris Martin will be involved in curating the performance, although the full list of artists has not yet been revealed.
The FIFA president added that the show is expected to be one of the largest in the world, following the model of events such as the Super Bowl halftime show. He also promised the participation of many well-known figures from sport and entertainment during the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
However, similar initiatives have previously received mixed reactions in football. One example is the 2017 DFB-Pokal Final, where a performance by singer Helene Fischer was booed by fans. Despite this, FIFA aims to further increase the global appeal of the World Cup final with this innovation.
